Time To Change Clocks and Inspect Homes with Paul’s Safety Tips

Spring forward, set your clocks and enjoy more sunshine! Daylight Saving Time occurs Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 2am, but keep in mind that setting the clock forward isn’t the only thing you need to update. Daylight Saving Time is a great time of year to do a property inspection and safety check.

Here are a few safety tips to keep your house and family safe:

1.       Replace Light Bulbs and Light Fixtures

·         Save energy and put more cash in your pocket by updating traditional lighting with energy-efficient LCD or fluorescent bulbs

2.       Update Missing Supplies in First-Aid Kits

·         Things like ointments and bandages should be replaced if needed and expiration dates checked on all medication

3.       Establish and Review a Family Emergency Plan Including a Plan for Fires

·         Make sure there is a family emergency plan in place and practice this with your loved ones

·         Update emergency information, including contact numbers

4.       Test All Detectors Including Smoke and Carbon Monoxide

·         Change batteries if needed

·         Ensure loose batteries are placed in the recycle bin as 9V batteries can start fires

5.       Change Your Home Air Filter

·         Maintaining your home air filtration is important to your health and safety, plus air conditioning filters are inexpensive

·         A good rule of thumb is to change a filter every 3-6 months, or as the filter looks dirty

6.       Clean Out Your Dryer Vent Weekly

·         Every time you dry clothes, form a habit of cleaning out the dryer vent immediately after to prevent clogs and possible fire hazards

We hope these details help you prepare your home for the beautiful spring season that lies ahead. And remember that if you have any property damage caused by fire, water, mold or storms, don’t hesitate to Call Paul!
